Chronic Disease Epidemiology Coordinator

The Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Chronic Disease Epidemiology Coordinator for the Nebraska Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Program. This position is responsible for the continuous, systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of health-related data needed for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of public health practice. This position works as part of a collaborative team addressing heart disease, stroke, diabetes, physical activity, nutrition, and school health.

Examples of Work

Develop and implement data management plans to ensure the proper collection, validation, and reporting of data. Collaboratively design, administer, and manage data collection tools and tracking systems to monitor program outputs and outcomes. Utilize data for identifying opportunities for program improvement, intervention gaps, and geographic areas or populations disproportionately affected by chronic diseases; and assessing the quality, effectiveness, and efficiency of program interventions. Develop infographics, data reports, maps, and grant reports in a variety of formats to facilitate comprehension of the data and program outcomes for internal and external audiences. Collaborate with the Program Evaluator in the development of the program’s evaluation plan and actively engage in evaluation activities. Write, administer, and conduct oversight of external contracts/sub-awards to assure compliance with federal and state audit requirements; provide guidance/technical assistance as needed to remedy any concerns or inconsistencies. Develop and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with internal and external program partners.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Masters degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics or other healthcare related field. Additional training and experience in the application of epidemiological principles and practices are required, including surveillance, investigative techniques, implementation and control measures, and evaluation measures, and system design and implementation. Experience can be substituted for education on a year for year basis

PREFERRED: Candidate will have experience with SAS, GIS, and data visualization/infographics.

OTHER: Valid driver’s license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: principles and practices of public/community health data planning and management; ArcGIS; SAS 9.4 or other statistical software; electronic health records or health information technology; evaluation methods; and quality improvement process Skill in: data visualization; quantitative and analytical review; effective verbal and written communication with the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences; decision making; leadership; planning, organizing, and prioritizing; problem solving;; Microsoft office programs Ability to: manage and balance workload of multiple grants; manage multiple datasets; extract and create data charts, graphics, and reports; create GIS maps; integrate/link databases; develop and maintain effective relationships with partners and team members; apply instructions; summarize program performance measure data and information into reports; demonstrate professionalism; work collaboratively in team environment with minimal supervision; and apply and interpret State and federal laws and standards.
