Community Health Educator, Senior

NE DHHS is seeking a Community Health Educator, Senior. This position supports the grant outcomes around outreach and education for the HIV Prevention Grant. Some of the job responsibilities include planning and implementation of community health education and health promotion activities that comply with the grant goals and objectives. This position will organize and/or participate in workshops, institutes, forums, and discussion groups to promote HIV/AIDS education and programs within the Infectious Disease Area. The Community Health Educator/Senior will develop and/or review curriculum and educational material, conduct educational presentations, conduct statistical surveys, develop specific health education plans, and prepare reports and correspondence. Monitor and evaluate grant programs, and organizes community groups to participate in grant activities. Interprets agency, Federal, state, and local guidance to provide information and answer questions for agency staff and the general public. Support the writing of project proposals and the grant applications to obtain Federal grant funding for community health education projects related to HIV outreach and education. Responds, tracks, and ships requests for educational tools, program promotional items, and educational materials statewide. Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelors degree or equivalent coursework/training in community health education, biological science, adult/continuing education or related field AND experience in public/community health education activities with responsibility for: developing, evaluating, and leading health education program activities; assessing health needs; writing and designing educational and informational material, training aids, and presentations; preparing grant proposals; or planning and leading group sessions. Related experience may substitute for a Bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: Minimum of one year of experience in public or community health. Minimum one year of experience with HIV/AIDS database system EvaluationWeb.

KSA: Knowledge of the principles and practices of program planning, implementation and evaluation including the assessment of goals and measurement of programmatic achievements. Ability to demonstrate competence in group facilitation, collaboration and partnership development. Skills in teaching, guiding and working with others. Ability to design, layout and use educational and informational material. Organization and operations of local governments and community organizations; Strong communication, time and priority management skills, planning, problem solving and decision making skills. Skill in word processing, spreadsheet, databases and applications.
