Observational Research Manager

Amgen is seeking an Observational Research Manager to conduct epidemiologic research to support Level 1 – Level 3 forecasts for pipeline products and forecasts for potential in-licensing products; Make significant contributions to the scientific direction of a product and/or specific projects; Demonstrates creativity and independent thought in applying technical solutions to derivation of epidemiologic inputs to product forecasts
Role within the Data & Analytic Center (DAC) of the Center for Observational Research (CfOR)
Recognized as a scientific contributor
First or contributing author on internal reports that enhance the company’s mission
Contributes to or leads papers for submission to peer reviewed journals
Conducting research to the highest standards of the profession
Aligning research with global and/or regional product team strategies
Participating in initiatives to improve processes/capabilities within CfOR

Key Activities
Responsible for conducting high-quality research to support development of addressable population forecasts
Defends the methods, data sources, and inputs into addressable population forecasts
Explains differences in disease state epidemiology and treatment landscapes across key countries
Develops deep understanding of commercial product strategy to help shape patient research and analysis
Helps shape scenarios around evolving treatment landscapes in the market
Contributes to ‘lessons learned’ discussions post-product launch
Promotes epidemiologic awareness within Global Marketing (Global Marketing Lead, Forecasting Director, Forecasting Manager)
Promotes understanding within CfOR of commercial implications to R&D activities
Communicates significant scientific information to a variety of audiences
Contributes to a CfOR therapeutic area
Sets annual product-specific and personal goals
Provides input into CfOR department meetings

Basic Qualifications
Doctorate Degree
OR
Master’s Degree & 3 years of Scientific experience
OR
Bachelor’s Degree & 5 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications
Doctorate in epidemiology or other subject with high observational research
Analysis of epidemiology studies within pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting
Expertise with advanced spreadsheets and modelling software
3 to 5 years experience
Understanding of drug development (Pre-clinical, Early Development, and/or Clinical Development)
Project planning and management
Communication of scientific information (written and oral)
Regional project experience
Working in teams

Knowledge
Epidemiology methodology and applications within Drug Development
Drug development process and operations
Epidemiological databases
Forecasting processes
