Methodology Database Analyst

The overall function of this role with Sanford Health (Sioux Falls, SD) is to assist researchers and our community partners in the design of research studies, including community based participatory research, and analyze research data under moderate direction.  Specific tasks may include preparing and giving presentations, grant writing, carrying out randomization routines, calculating power/sample size, selection of appropriate statistical methods, analysis of medical research data, and preparation of relevant manuscript sections, tables, and figures.

A working knowledge of the following types of study designs is required: cross-sectional, case-control, cohort, and randomized study design.  A working knowledge of the following statistical principles are required: general linear mixed models, generalized linear models, longitudinal analysis, general estimating equations, generalized additive models, survival analysis (Kaplan-Meier, Cox PH regression, accelerated failure time models).

Must be able to work with complex data and assess validity and appropriateness of data analysis methods.  Requires the ability to draw conclusions from analyses and communicates results with researchers and community partners both orally and in writing.  Must be able to communicate statistical concepts to researchers and community partners of all levels and backgrounds. Prepares quality figures, tables, statistical methods and results to summarize analyses for journal publications.  Willingly interacts and consults with researchers and community partners to ensure proper use of statistical methodology and interpretation of results.  Demonstrates accountability to provide complete and accurate information to researchers and community partners.

Must demonstrate professional leadership ability.  Consistently meets deadlines or seeks appropriate assistance prior to deadline..  Must be self-directed, autonomous and yet be able to work in an interdependent role.  Must have excellent critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills to collaborate with researchers and community partners.  Attention to detail is essential.  Work must be well documented.  Must be able to communicate with all level of management and employees, both orally and in writing.  Willing to take direction and learn new methods, skills, computer languages, and techniques.

Experience working with the SAS software program is required.  Experience with the R software program is preferred.

Required Skills: Bachelor’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or related field required. Master’s degree preferred. Consulting experience is highly recommended.
