Williams Science Hall Update

By Erin Peters (eebmeierpeters@nebraskamed.com)

*Domestic water shut-off this Saturday, 2/29, 8am to 4pm max.

  • This includes the purified water system, however, the tank in the penthouse will be full so there will be supply through the entire shut-down.
  • This includes restrooms, sinks, water fountains, etc.

** We are looking at a building electrical transition to new switchgear equipment on the week of March 23 – it will be 1 day only.**

*** We are looking at a building HVAC transition to the new exhaust unit April 13-17**

  • This date may shift so we are over a weekend. 2-5 days anticipated.
  • The existing building exhaust will have to be shut down for a period of time in order to connect to the new.
  • I will schedule additional meetings with occupants as this will affect hood usage and general building occupancy for this window only.

Phase 1 update:

Construction:

  • Noise levels are constant and vary day-to-day
  • All floors:
    • Demolition in atrium is ongoing
    • Metal stud framing, walls and ceiling soffits, and drywall is being hung on all floors
    • Steel and ductwork installation is complete on the feature wall (north side)
      • Framing and drywall complete on the south side feature wall – it looks great!
    • Electrical and plumbing rough-ins – copper water line installation and conduit is ongoing
    • Fire sprinkler system design is complete and installation starts next week – 3/2
    • Teaching lab, 3rd floor, casework arrived!

Safety:

  • Only authorized personnel in the construction areas and only with PPE
  • Please continue to report any issues (e.g. unexplained odors) as they arise

Other issues/items:

  • New building exhaust unit expected to arrive onsite by mid-March – a boom truck will be onsite to lift the units to the roof top.

Schedule & Budget:

  • Phase 1 anticipated completion June 2020
    • Lead time on glass railings should not impact occupant relocations as this affects the 1st and 2nd floors only.
      • 3rd and 4th floor glass has a shorter time frame
    • Exhaust fan and AHUs – March 9-13, approximate
      • Exhaust transition to new unit April 13-17, approximate
  • Phase 2 & Substantial Completion is August 2020
  • Final completion: Fall 2020
  • Budget items:
    • Firewatch – currently absorbing in contingency
    • Fume hood infrastructure for teaching and 4th floor vacant labs in SW corner
    • Furniture plans are starting – more to come!
