{"id":5233,"date":"2018-02-08T13:41:08","date_gmt":"2018-02-08T19:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/?p=5233"},"modified":"2018-02-08T13:41:08","modified_gmt":"2018-02-08T19:41:08","slug":"students-connect-with-state-senators","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/2018\/02\/08\/students-connect-with-state-senators\/","title":{"rendered":"Students connect with State Senators"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p><em>Submitted by Pat Hageman, PT, PhD, FAPTA<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, 57 representatives from UNMC\u2019s doctor of physical therapy (DPT) Class of 2019 joined UNMC faculty in attending a Legislative Day Breakfast, hosted by the Nebraska Physical Therapy Association (NPTA), as part of an experiential learning opportunity in their Practice Management course.<\/p>\n<p>Based upon their hometown and current residences, UNMC students represented over 25 of the Unicameral\u2019s 49 districts. Students visited with Senators and staffers from their respective districts, listened to presentations from Senators Howard and Lindstrom, and received recognition during their visit in the gallery in the Unicameral chamber.<\/p>\n<p>DPT student Anthony Rost, commented how \u201cmemorable it was to have such accessibility to our Senator (Mark Kolterman),\u201d noting his fellow students and he felt \u201cit was clear that the Senators truly want to hear from their constituents to work toward improvements in policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Professor and NPTA Secretary, Dr. Sara Bills remarked, &#8220;Legislative Day provides the students with an early experience in advocacy for their future patients and their profession.
