{"id":4205,"date":"2015-11-02T08:07:02","date_gmt":"2015-11-02T14:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/?p=4205"},"modified":"2015-12-02T16:29:25","modified_gmt":"2015-12-02T22:29:25","slug":"pt-hosts-successful-ce-conference-on-oncology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.unmc.edu\/alliedhealth\/2015\/11\/02\/pt-hosts-successful-ce-conference-on-oncology\/","title":{"rendered":"PT hosts successful CE conference on oncology"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"panel body-content\"><div class=\"panel__container\"><p>In August, the Division of Physical Therapy Education hosted 58 alumni, clinical instructors, and like-minded rehab professionals for a continuing education conference: Oncology Rehabilitation Principles, Application, and State of Practice.<\/p>\n<p>This interprofessional conference featured the expertise of two national speakers from the well-known cancer centers of MD Anderson and Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital: Brent Braveman, PhD, OTR\/L, FAOTA and Sharlynn Touhy, PT, DPT, MBA, respectively. It was also transmitted to participants in Scottsbluff, Nebraska.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, Dr. Braveman focused broadly on oncology rehabilitation programming and the impact of the Affordable Care Act for this patient population.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur challenge, as rehabilitation professionals,\u201d said Braveman, \u201cis to prove we have a role in smoothly and safely transitioning patients through the system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Dr. Touhy included rehabilitation principles and application into practice with a focus on direct patient care.\u00a0 She stressed the importance of rehabilitation as it relates to cancer symptoms and side effects of medical treatment to improve function and quality of life.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The success this year,&#8221; said Betsy Becker,\u00a0PT, DPT, CLT-LANA, planning committee chair, &#8220;was based on a great UNMC planning team and support from the Division of PT Education and the Alumni Association.
