Real heroes of medical education

The Omaha World Herald recently ran an editorial, Real heroes of medical education, written by Wayne Mathews, MS, PA-C, DFAAPA, associate program director in physician assistant (PA) education. In it, Mathews described the extraordinary value to students in health professions of simulation patients and anatomical donors.

Those heroes generally go unrecognized, but not so last week. Michael Huckabee, PhD, PA-C, director of the PA program, said, “We learned that one of the simulation patients in the sim lab brought the editorial to share with other patients. They were so pleasantly surprised, then, when Wayne walked in to help them and recognized him as the author.”

Thank you, Wayne, for sharing your personal experience and thoughtful reflections.
