Michael Named Inaugural Anderson Professor

Kim Michael

Kimberly (Kim) K. Michael, MA, RT(R), RDMS, RVT was awarded the inaugural Joseph & Darlene Anderson Distinguished Professorship of Imaging Sciences on March 6, 2014.

Ms. Michael has been on faculty in the School of Allied Health Professions for 15 years, serving as the director of the diagnostic medical sonography program for the duration of her appointment. She presently holds the rank of associate professor.

Ms. Michael is known nationally for her work in sonography education. She has 31 publications to her credit, six as first author. She has been instrumental in developing the SAHP diagnostic medical sonography program into one of the nation’s finest. In 2013 she was elected as an at-large director to the Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonography board of directors.

The professorship was established through a lead gift from Dr. Joseph Anderson, Professor and Vice-Chair of the UNMC Department of Radiology and his wife Darlene, and a matching gift from the Charles R. O’Malley Charitable Lead Trust.

Dr. Anderson has contributed significantly to the success of UNMC for over 40 years, having served as medical director of the School of Allied Health Professions Diagnostic Medical Sonography program since its inception in 1998.

The Anderson Professorship will support the expansion of educational opportunities in the sonography program at UNMC to include musculoskeletal sonography.
