Nellie House Craven Scholarship in Academic Medicine

Dr. Gerald Moore, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs announced the nomination cycle for the Nellie House Craven Scholarship in Academic Medicine today.

The award is available for the 2015-2016 academic year and covers a significant portion of tuition, living stipend, and travel

The purpose of this special award is to identify and motivate qualified individuals toward a career in academic medicine. This objective is best met by identifying and assisting students who have a clear commitment to research with academic medicine as a career goal.

Individuals do not apply for this award, but rather candidates are identified and nominated by faculty. A faculty member willing to serve as a research advisor must prepare a written nomination which must include information about the candidate’s qualifications and a research proposal (see attachment). The nomination and research proposal must be approved by a department chairperson. The qualifications of the candidate, the proposed program of training, and the research program of the faculty member are all considered in judging a nomination.

The nomination deadline for the 2015-2016 selection cycle is February 27, 2015.  Nominations are to be returned to Gerald F. Moore, COM dean’s office, zip 5520.
