The BrightFocus Foundation is pleased to announce sponsorship of 4 travel fellowships (in the areas of glaucoma or Age-related macular degeneration) for Young Investigators to attend the upcoming 12th biennial AOPT Conference (Association for Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics Conference) in Charleston, SC Feb. 26-Mar. 1, 2015. Eligibility is restricted to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows (within 5 years of terminal degree), and junior faculty (within 10 years of terminal degree). BrightFocus travel fellowships are restricted to researchers pursing projects with relevance to AMD and glaucoma.  See the AOPT website for other fellowship opportunities. Application deadline is November 21. So, don’t delay submitting an application if you qualify.

This represents an exciting opportunity for young investigators to attend the meeting and present their research. Abstract submission is a requirement. The best abstracts submitted for this award will be selected for a platform session dedicated to young investigators.

In addition to an exciting platform program that covers many areas of ocular pharmacology and therapeutics, the conference organizers have a dedicated program for young investigators including: a young investigator platform session, pizza with the professor lunch, panel discussion “Collaborations between academia and industry”, and a hot topics poster session. Lastly, this year’s keynote speaker is Professor Krzysztof Palczewski from Case Western Reserve University. His lecture is titled “Application of systems pharmacology to retinal degenerative disorders”.
