Award amount: $15,000
An annual award of $15,000 will be presented to one to three investigators without regard to age, race, gender, or nationality for outstanding and exemplary original scientific investigations that relate tobacco consumption with disease. This scientific work may be clinical, fundamental, epidemiological or prevention in scope. The prime criterion for award selection is its scientific context and impact on this major health threat. All nominations, whatever the category of scientific inquiry, must be supported by letters and copies of peer-reviewed scientific publications as detailed below.

Nominations:
Nominations must be made by a letter that describes in detail, but concisely, the scientific work and major contributions of the investigator to the field. Self-nominations are excluded. All nominations must include and be supported by: (1) the candidate’s curriculum vitae (containing an active mailing address, office telephone and cellular telephone numbers, and e-mail address, and bibliography; (2) at least two additional supporting letters of recommendation by scientific peers from outside the candidate’s institution; and (3) reprints of at least three pertinent major scientific contributions. The Award Committee is now accepting nominations and supporting material in PDF format only by e-mail sent to Ochsner at AOSRA@ochsner.org. Documents submitted in a format other than PDF by e-mail will not be considered. No books or bound journals will be accepted with the nomination. Each nominee will be restricted to a one three year term; and the candidate must wait at least two years before being proposed again. Any nominees not receiving the Award will automatically be considered for the two remaining years. Submission of additional supporting letters and updated materials are strongly recommended.

Presentation of Award:
The Award will be presented in person, at a special Symposium at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans in the Fall of 2014.
