2011 Carruth Wagner, MD, Scholarship in Public Health

Lava Timilsina received his MPH with a concentration in epidemiology from the College of Public Health. His MPH capstone project was focused on imipenem-resistant MDR acinetobacters in Douglas County, Nebraska. During his MPH program, he worked as a graduate research assistant and coauthored several manuscripts that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. He has also presented posters at meetings of the National Association of Local Boards of Health and the American Public Health Association. His research focus on social determinants of health and tobacco control: racial/ethnic disparities in tobacco marketing and availability, marital status and smoking behavior, factors influencing intention to quit smoking, and the effect of environmental tobacco smoke exposure. He also received a Carruth J Wagner, MD, Scholarship in Public Health for the previous two academic years. Prior to attending graduate school in the United States, Lava was involved in HIV and AIDS care and support and community-based integrated management of childhood illness programs in Nepal.
