Computers located at the 6th floor Reference area and 8th floor Wilson Library Training Room are now sporting antimicrobial keyboards and mice. Antimicrobial silver ions are embedded in the plastic, which is also dishwasher safe! We don’t plan on testing that manufacturer’s assertion, but the keyboards and mice will be easier to clean. Additionally, wall-mounted handsanitizer dispensers have been strategically placed near computer areas.
Please note that these keyboards and mice are not available on the ITS computers located on the 6th floor (northwest side) and 8th floor ITS training room and Sievers cluster.
While on the topic, sinks for the restrooms should arrive within the next few weeks. Handsanitizer is available, along with the sink in the 6th floor Linder Lounge. Many apologies for this inconvenience.

As mentioned last week, changes are afoot with PubMed. A link to the new PubMed interface was just announced this morning. The old interface is still the default and it is unknown when the new interface will be out of its “preview” status, but to get yourself familiar with the changes, you can visit http://preview.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed.
Please note that the GetIt@UNMC button will only appear if you have visited PubMed recently and still have a cookie on your computer. Also, UNMC full-text links might only be accessible while you are on campus. All regular searching should be done through the PubMed link on the library’s home page. The preview link should only be used for testing purposes.
Check out some screenshots below. All of the normal features of PubMed are still available, but have been moved around and drop-down menus have been updated. Also, the default abstract view of a citation now includes links to the MeSH Headings assigned to the article and the UNMC holdings tab is now a link on the right-hand side of the screen.

The date has not been announced, but there is much talk that PubMed will be updating its interface soon. Already, you may have noticed the new Auto Suggest function when searching PubMed. Not much has been said lately, but earlier reports stated that the current interface would be available alongside the new interface, once it is debuted. For more information on the Auto Suggest feature and a look at the latest prototype of the new interface, see the latest NLM Technical Bulletin.
