EBSCO believes they will have this function fixed by Friday or Saturday (November 13th or 14th). In the mean time, use workarounds 2 and 3 as described in the RefWorks LibGuide to either save your results until the direct export is working again (work-around 2) or, if you can’t wait for the return of the direct export function, import your results using RefWorks internal filters (workaround 3), though that functionality is sometimes buggy.

Available content includes ebooks, MDConsult journals, Clinics, and guidelines. FirstConsult is not included through this interface and requires a download onto your device.

Before accessing MDConsult from the library’s website, you must first create an MDConsult account by clicking on the Create Account link on the upper right-hand corner of the MDConsult website. Once you have created that account, access MDConsult via the library’s website on your mobile device. You will need to authenticate first with your Lotus Notes username and password and then MDConsult will allow you to log in with your MDConsult account.

Whenever PubMed is down, you can still search MEDLINE via EBSCO. Please note that PubMed updates its database with new citations on a daily basis, so some citations may not be available in EBSCO at the time of your search.

    • The new PubMed interface simplifies exports to RefWorks! Check out the RefWorks libguide (PDF) to find out how.
    • Students, before you graduate, ask about free RefWorks access for Alumni! RefWorks is developing a new program for the alumni of institutions that license RefWorks. This program is supposed to provide free, continued RefWorks access after graduation. It’s not yet clear how this program will be administered. If you are a student and find RefWorks valuable, please ask us about this program before you graduate. You can contact Cindy Schmidt, at cmschmidt@unmc.edu or 559-7077, or the Library’s reference desk at askus@unmc.edu 559-6221. The program details may not be available until May.
    • New RefWorks interface to be available in 2010. RefWorks technical support is planning to release a redesigned RefWorks interface in late 2009. You will not be forced to switch to the new interface immediately. We’re told that it will be available as an option for quite awhile before it becomes the default interface.

To address these changes, the library first moved the leisure reading area to this shelving. With still many empty shelves, a new home was sought and at long last finally found for the shelving units.  This area, located by the photocopy room on the 6th floor, has now become an expanded seating area to be enjoyed by even more readers and relaxers. Enjoy!

    Additionally, new counters and sinks, with hands-free faucets,  have been installed in all of the library’s restrooms. Thank you again for your patience during our plumbing problems and upgrade period.

To learn more about the changes, you can read the NLM Technical Bulletin or watch a 30 minute NLM webinar.  You can also peruse the PubMed Basics guide, which was created for UNMC users. For in-person instruction, you can register for library PubMed classes, which are scheduled in November and December. You can also contact the Reference Desk (559-6221 or askus@unmc.edu) for one-on-one instruction and assistance.

    Please note that during this preview (and perhaps after), NLM is making modifications to the new interface, in reaction to feedback provided by PubMed users. If you would like to provide feedback, please do so. The more voices that are heard regarding an issue, the more likely that modifications will be made. Feedback can be submitted through the PubMed Help Desk form.

    There are a few major changes that will impact UNMC users. First, in order to utilize Limits, see your search History, or view search Details, you must be in the Advanced Search.

    Second, RefWorks users should follow these steps in order to save files for RefWorks imports:

    1. After selecting citations or moving them into the Clipboard, click on the Send to link
    2. After a box with selections pops up, select File
    3. Once File is selected, a drop-down menu of Destinations will appear. Here, you can select the MEDLINE format
    4. Once MEDLINE is selected, click the Create File button (obstructed in the following image) and follow usual file-save procedures.

    You will not see your citations in MEDLINE format, but they will be saved in the format, if selected. This change saves you a step!
