The House Officer’s Association Alliance (HOAA) exists to provide support and friendship to the partners and families of UNMC residents and fellows. These years of medical training can be challenging, but with a good support network they can also be rewarding. We’re here to help this be a time to enjoy rather than a time just to “get through.” (Our partner organization, The House Officers’ Association provides similar support for House Officers themselves.)
HOAA offers several special interest groups for the partners, spouses, and children of House Officers. These include a bookclub, volleyball group, and a children’s playgroup among others. Our group meets on the third Thursday evening of the month to socialize, relax, listen to guest speakers, or participate in a specific activity. Our activities may include a variety of things such as: gardening, wine tasting, financial planning, educational seminars, community service, parenting classes, or decorating on a dime. We offer fun and informative activities based on the interest and input of the group.
Membership also enrolls individuals in the American Medical Association Alliances and the county and state alliances. Members receive publications, discounts and other benefits. They are also a part of a larger organizaztion that promotes quality health care while strengthening medical families nationwide.
Membership is open to partners and spouses of residents. The annual dues are $35.00 or $45.00 if interested in being involved with the children playgroup. The fees go towards the many activities put on by HOAA throughout the year. The dues also cover the memberships listed above. It’s a bargain considering the rewards and benefits! There are very minimal if any costs above the intial dues throughout the year.
If interested in becoming a member of HOAA please contact the membership coordinator. The current membership coordinator is Cerian Bearl.
