CSTE Summer Public Health Law Internship

For more than seven decades, the Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have worked together in partnership to improve the public’s health by supporting the efforts of epidemiologists working at the state and local level by promoting the effective use of epidemiologic data to guide public health practice and improve health. CSTE and its members represent two of the four basic components of public health – epidemiology and surveillance. CSTE, as a member-based organization, represents the interests of applied public health epidemiologists working in state, local, tribal, and territorial settings to improve the public’s health through effective epidemiology and surveillance. CSTE is currently recruiting for their Summer 2022 Public Health Law Internship Opportunity.  This is a paid (up to $20.00/hour) opportunity for a current law student or recent law school graduate interested in public health law.  The intern will work directly under the supervision of CSTE’s Public Health Attorney, and will be responsible for supporting a variety of CSTE’s Public Health Law portfolio development and training activities. Research Assistant, Participant Enrollment Specialist

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under supervision of assigned research area leadership, the Research Assistant I role works on various phases of research studies being performed, including data entry and analysis, equipment calibration, preparation of solutions, ordering of supplies, and scheduling/recruiting human subjects for study activities. Duties will vary widely depending on the type of laboratory assigned and research being performed.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Assists in the preparation of stimuli and development of appropriate test procedures.
  • Assists in research tool preparation, data collection, and procedures in research studies which may include animals, human subjects, etc.
  • Maintains a detailed record of test conditions and results.
  • Assists in the calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Assists in the development of software for data collection and data analysis.
  • Assists in the design, construction, and maintenance of electronic devices used in laboratories, including PCs, audio equipment, and special purpose interfaces.
  • Assists in the recruitment, scheduling, and testing in research studies using human subjects.
  • Uses computers to analyze and plot results of experiments.
