Year-Long Environmental Internship

This is a posting for an internship with the Environmental Management Group in the Safety Department of Union Pacific Railroad. The successful candidate must be available for part-time, year-round employment continuing as needed with no guarantee for opportunities beyond. This internship is designed to further the company’s employee engagement initiatives for environmental stewardship. This person will be the primary interface for conservation suggestions from employees and others; the role includes prioritizing focuses and facilitating implementation. This person also will manage the broader portfolio of suggestions to understand trends and opportunities across the railroad. Additionally, this position will play a role in developing and implementing employee engagement initiatives related to environmental stewardship, such as programs for Earth Day, recognition, and other communication.

Applicants are required to attend a college in, or the near proximity of, Omaha, Nebraska for successful part-time, year-round employment.

Qualifications

Required

  • College credits equivalent to two years towards an undergraduate degree and actively pursuing an undergraduate level degree or higher
  • Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

Preferred

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree with a focus on environmental studies or project management

The Safety Department provides tools and resources to ensure systemwide safety on the job, which includes personal protective equipment, training, alcohol and drug programs, rules for safe operating practices, and safety reporting and compliance. Safety directs internal reporting of personal injuries, highway-rail grade crossing accidents and rail equipment accidents while ensuring safety reporting is in compliance.
