Lincoln Lancaster County is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist I. This is a permanently funded position and will be within the Air Quality Program. Primary work duties include: conducting outdoor air quality compliance inspections at regulated sources including Class I, Class II, and area source MACT facilities, obtaining asbestos inspector certification and assist with conducting asbestos renovation and demolition project inspections to determine compliance with federal asbestos regulations and provide technical assistance to the general public, responding to outdoor and indoor air quality nuisance complaints, conducting noise testing during afterhours and weekends, and other duties as assigned.
Seeking an individual who has strong customer service skills and can work collaboratively with businesses, the public, and other agencies to achieve public health goals. Desired physical requirements: Ability to conduct inspections in facilities that may require climbing stairs, ladders, exposure to hostile environmental (heat and chemicals), working at extreme heights, dexterity to maneuver in confined areas, and have the manual dexterity to perform monitoring, testing and to carry the necessary equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with major course work in environmental science, environmental health, environmental engineering, or biological, chemical, physical sciences, or related field, or equivalent.
