Student volunteers are currently being sought to assist with a GIS training here at UNMC during spring break (the week of March 24-28).
The training will be conducted for Native Americans in the Northern Plains Region for the Office of Minority Health Grant: ‘Mapping Pathways into a Healthier Future”. The grant supports a 5 year infrastructure development plan to expand Northern Plains Native Americans ability to understand, collect, analyze, and visualize data.
This segment of the training will include a 4.5-day workshop on the use of ESRI’s ArcMap. Students who participate will get a ‘crash course’ in how to use Arc Map prior to the workshop and will then assist with the training. This will be a great opportunity for students to both learn GIS, as well as gain experience in teaching.
If you are interested, please respond to Kate Watkins (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information. They would like as many students as possible to help with the training, so even if you can only commit to part of a day, or a couple of days, rather than the entire workshop, please contact Kate.
