The Tri-County Health Department in Greenwood Village, CO is seeking a Disease Intervention Specialist to conduct investigations and surveillance of communicable diseases for Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas Counties. Interviews notifiable disease cases and discusses sensitive topics with ill cases via the phone. Determines sources of infection and implements control measures. Performs outbreak response. Works with the Disease Intervention Manager to monitor for trends and clusters of communicable diseases. Develops action plans to address trends and issues. Provides technical support and expertise to TCHD staff, local health care providers, and the general public regarding appropriate investigation and control methods for communicable diseases. Develops and conducts presentations on TCHD’s current disease intervention activities and outbreak investigations. Responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents and events. Requires the ability to communicate accurately and effectively orally and in writing with the public and medical providers under stressful circumstances.
Qualifications: Must have knowledge of nursing and/or epidemiology concepts and investigative techniques, including excellent communication skills. Biostatistics, EpiInfo and SAS skills preferred. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, public health or related field. Master’s Degree in public health is preferred. One-year experience required, preferably in the investigation and/or prevention of communicable diseases.
