UNMC’S Preventive Maintenance Shop will be doing their preventive maintenance checks for Durham Research Center-1 on Thursday, May 16 and Friday, May 17, both starting at 12:01 a.m. and ending at 6:00 a.m. (approximately).  This will affect the fume hoods and bio-safety cabinets on Level LA, in the animal areas only.

The 40th street intersection of  Emile/Jones streets will be closed for approximately seven more days. Hopefully the road will open Tuesday, May 14.  “We’re waiting on the City to pave over the excavation site with concrete, according to Don Dickmeyer, project manager.”    The Student Life Center will be accessible during this time from 39^th and Jones streets, and Parking Lot No. 21 will be accessible from 40^th and Leavenworth streets.  If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact Don Dickmeyer at 559-7170.

On the morning of April 22, 2013, new construction barrier walls will be put in place to isolate the final phase of the Wittson Hall HVAC Upgrade project.  The temporary construction wall locations and the boundaries of the new construction site are indicated on the attached floor plan (see below).  Also, as a part of this phase, the 4^th floor connector between UT-1 and Wittson Hall will receive both mechanical and Fire Safety improvements and therefore will be out of service until the completion of the work.  This phase of construction is anticipated to last for approximately 10 weeks.

Starting on Monday, April 15, 2013, and continuing through Friday, April 19, 2013, UNMC Facilities will be performing work involving the ceilings, lights and fire sprinklers on the 4^th floor outside of the Public Elevators and in the main corridor as shown on the attached plan (see below).  All work will take place between 6:00 PM and 2:30 AM each night to minimize the inconvenience to Faculty, Staff and Students.

Between the hours of 6:00 PM and 2:30 AM each night, elevator access will not be available on the 4^th floor and pedestrian traffic will need to be detoured around the elevator lobby area as shown on the attached plan.  During daytime hours, all traffic will be normally routed, but there will be temporary lighting, and no ceiling in place.

Formerly known as Children’s Hospital, SWH was originally constructed in 1946. The building was purchased by the Gilbert Swanson Foundation in 1978 and donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center which used it for offices and laboratories. A portion of the building was reserved for the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition.
