Read the full article]]> Over the next four to six weeks, construction in front of the Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) will result in sidewalk and lane restrictions. In an effort to ease congestion during peak business hours, the majority of this work has been scheduled to occur over nights and weekends.Drivers and pedestrians are asked to exercise extreme caution and pay attention to posted signage as changes will be ongoing. 2014 Aug 29 Skywalk-Emile

 

Saturday, Sept. 6: Emile street, Lot 50 and Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) circle drive
Construction of a new skywalk that will connect parking Lot 50 to the second level of DOC will kick off with deep foundation work starting Saturday, Sept. 6.  This work requires closure of the south lane of Emile Street and the south sidewalk leading to the intersection of 45th and Emile streets.As a result, pedestrians traveling from Lot 50 to DOC will be required to use the temporary Emile Street pedestrian walkway, shifted just east of its current location. Those traveling from Lot 50 to the Durham Research Center towers will use the northwest stair tower of Lot 50, exiting west of the construction at 45th and Emile streets. Work in this area may extend into the first week of October.

Electrical work in the center lane of 45th Street continues.During this time, two-way traffic will be maintained, as will access to and from Green/Lot 2 Visitor Parking.Work is expected to continue into the first week of September.

Facilities Management and Planning will close the Central Stair Tower in the Wittson Hall / McGoogan Library Building to normal access during the following times in order to paint the stair tower:

  •  Friday, August 29, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. until Saturday August 30, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. (Approximately)
  • Sunday August 31, 2014, at 6:00 A.M. until Sunday August 31, 2014, at 6:00 P.M.  (Approximately)
  • Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. until Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at 6:00A.M.  (Approximately)
  • Wednesday, September 3, 2014, at 6:00 P.M. until Thursday, September 4, 2014, at 6:00 A.M.  (Approximately)

The stair closing will affect floors 1 through 6.  Please use the elevators.  The Central Stair tower will not be restricted for emergency use.  In the event of an emergency the stair tower shall be used for egress.

If anyone has questions regarding this shutdown, please contact  Marvin Olson  at 402-510-7245 as soon as possible. Since it is vital that everyone working on floors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the WHM building be aware of the stair closing, please  mention it to your colleagues.

Tomorrow, Friday, August 29, 2014, there will be a shutdown of Air Handling Unit 5 in the Hattie B. Munroe Pavilion-Addition 2 (4420 Dewey Ave).  UNMC’S Facilities Management and Planning will be installing two VFD’s for AHU-5.  This may affect temperature and pressure on the 2nd and 3rd floors in the HBM Addition 2 building.

Commence Time:     Friday, August 29, 2014 at 5:00 a.m.

Completion Time:    Friday, August 29, 2014 at 9:00 a.m.  (Approximately)

  • Administration Center (ADC)
  • College of Nursing (CON)
  • College of Pharmacy (COP)
  • Sorrell Center for Health Science Education (MSC)

This will cause a power outage to all receptacle outlets, computers, lighting, air handling units, supply fans, exhaust fans, fume hoods, motors, etc. throughout each building.  Depending on the building, the power outage could be as short as a “blink” or last up to 5 minutes.

If possible, it is recommended that computers and other pieces of sensitive electrical equipment be shut down prior to the scheduled electrical interruption as a safety precaution.

This shut off is required to allow for the reroute of primary electrical feeder circuit connections for the COP Lozier Drug Discovery Building utilities improvements currently under construction.

Interruption Schedule:

Start  Time:    Tuesday, August 26, 2014,  at 10:00 p.m. (2200 hrs.)

End Time:  Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 11:30 p.m. (2330 hrs.)  Approximately

Read the full article]]> Electric power to the campus light tower, the walkway pole light and the blue light phone will be interrupted on August 27 and 28.

Power for the campus light tower, the walkway pole light and the blue light phone are all provided by the Michael Sorrell Center. To excavate the site for the new Lozier Center for Pharmacy building the construction contractor will need to reroute this power and as a result will need to have the campus tower lights down for one night, Wednesday, August 27 and have the walkway pole light and blue light phone “possibly” down for one night on Thursday, August 28.  (See attached site plan for location of blue light phone and walkway pole light.)  (Click on photos)

Access to the General Supply Warehouse will be opened from 41st street.  Please use caution and observe any temporary barricades.

During this time, emergency power will be disconnected and only items connected to the normal power supply will remain energized. This will cause an extended outage to all “RED” receptacle outlets, lighting, air handling units, supply fans, exhaust fans, fume hoods, motors, etc.

This outage is needed to complete repairs done on an Automatic Transfer Switch, (ATS).

Interruption Schedule:

Start Time:         Thursday August  28, 2014, @  7:00 p.m. (1900 hrs)

End Time:          Thursday August  28, 2014, @ 9:00 p.m. (2100 hrs)                               (Approximately)

On Saturday,August 16, 2014, there will be a steam shutdown to the Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute (3902 Leavenworth Street) and to the Michael Sorrell Center (619 South 42nd Street) on all levels.  This interruption will affect the domestic hot water to all kitchens, labs and bathrooms.

This shutdown could possibly affect Maurer Center for Public Health (519South 40th Street) and Student Life Center (3908 Jones Street).  This shutdown is for the purpose of connecting the Lozier Center for Pharmacy (new construction) to the steam loop.

Scheduled Shutdown:

Commence Time:     Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 7:00 a.m.
Completion Time:    Saturday, August 16, 2014, at 5:00 p.m.  (Approximately)
