Work continues on the new Emile Street skywalk connecting the Durham Outpatient Center (DOC) with the Lot 50 employee parking structure. The steel framework for the structure was set in place over the past several weekends. Going forward, construction crews will continue work to enclose it and make final connections to adjacent buildings. The skywalk will be complete for use by early 2016. As construction progresses, the following street and sidewalk impacts are necessary. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to exercise caution and pay attention to posted signage as changes will be ongoing.
Emile Street Lane Closures
Effective immediately, the south driving lane, adjacent sidewalk and pedestrian crosswalk along Emile St., west of DOC Circle Drive are closed. Two driving lanes will remain open. Employees parking in Lot 50 are asked to utilize the east crosswalk at Emile St. during this time. This closure is anticipated to last through fall 2015.
Work continues to install utilities west of 45th and Emile St., along south side of Durham Research Tower II. The adjacent sidewalk will remain closed through the month of May.
DOC Circle Drive to Close Again This Sunday, 5/10 and next Sunday, 5/17
The DOC circle drive and a section of Emile St., west to 45th Street will be closed for the next two Sundays:
The work that requires the closure may not take all day, and construction teams will re-open the drive and the street as soon as possible. During the closure, the Lot 2 parking structure adjacent to the DOC will only be accessible from the 45th St. entrance. Lot 50, at south side of Emile St., will be available for patient and visitor parking during the circle drive closure. This work is being done on Sundays to minimize the impact to patients, visitors and staff during busier weekday times.
