Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch Changes

There have been some changes in the PR department that you all should probably know about.  Some of you may already be aware, but in case you haven’t heard, here’s the scoop on what’s going on in PR-land lately:

  • Renee Fry, our previous director, left earlier this summer.  Bill O’Neill has replaced her as director.  If you see Bill on campus, make sure to tell him congrats!
  • Dave Markes, our art director, left to take a job with Swanson Russell.  We wish Dave all the best at his new position!
  • Alex Flagg, our associate director for web communications, will be leaving on Friday.  His wife will be doing a pharmacy rotation in New Zealand, and I guess he thought it’d be fun to go along rather than stay here in Omaha.  Can you detect a little sarcasm?  I’m just a wee bit jealous.  Alex, if you’re reading this, have a fantastic time!  maybe you can visit the steepest street in the world or see the All Blacks perform their Haka. 

So with all of these changes, you’re probably wondering whom to contact for questions about design, web, etc.  For identity/brand questions, you can contact me, just like before Dave started here.  If I’m not here (I now only work Tuesday – Thursday), you can contact Bill or Karen Burbach.  And for web questions, you can contact Ryan Shaw in our department.  As always, you can also look to the branding resources site for information, too.  Our brand book and identity standards are one of the first items on the page that you can download.

More templates available

In case you didn’t catch it in the UNMC Today article, new templates for print and PowerPoint materials have been added to the branding resources website.  The templates were created based on the needs and feedback from the campus community and include:

  • Two certificate templates,
  • Four Power Point templates,
  • Four flyer templates; and
  • One new poster template.

In addition, training materials including recordings and presentation handouts from campus communicator meetings also are available on the site.

More templates and training materials will continue to be added based on campus feedback. If you have a suggestion, post a comment or email me!

New department template!  After much anticipation, a demonstration of a brand new template is scheduled for Thursday, April 29 at 1 PM in Sorrell Center room 2018. In addition, other topics we’ll be covering include:

  • New features in RedDot, including search engine optimization tools and customization features;
  • Opportunities to get RedDot training; and
  • The process needed to start a RedDot site.

UNMC’s IT/Web team has spent months developing new features and additions, based on campus feedback, to improve the entire website’s flexibility and performance in search. These new features will be rolled over to existing templates as well. 

The presentation is also being recorded using Echo360 and webcasting to the College of Dentistry campus.  Hope you can make it!

Web style guide, poster template ready!

Last, but certainly not least, some of the final, promised resources to be added to the branding resources Web site are now available.  A web style guide and two poster templates can now be downloaded off of the site.

The two poster templates include one template that is mostly/all text, and one that includes space for images.  The web style guide works in tandem with the brand book, but includes guidelines for more web-specific issues.  It will continue to be updated and evolve as new tools and documentation become available.

Take a look at these and let me know what you think.  If you have thoughts or opinions on the other templates available on the site, I’d love to hear those, too!   The collection of templates will continue to grow and expand, and we will try to incorporate as many of the needs of the campus as we can, so your input is invaluable.
