Pretty cool printing

Posted by on January 11th, 2012

Did you see the article in UNMC Today about some of new services the Print Shop offers?  Check it out and read about the new equipment they have that can offer on-demand printing.  Which basically means that items like magazines and reports can be printed in very small quantities in a very short amount of time.  In some cases, minutes! It used to be  that items like these took longer to print because they had to be printed in large quantities and on a press.

I had the chance to get a sneak peak of some of the equipment’s capabilities, and it’s pretty darn cool.  Not to mention cheaper to print.  The best of both worlds – gotta love that.

They also have a new material on which they can print posters.  It’s a vinyl material but feels almost like cotton.  This means that things like scientific posters can easily be stored in a suitcase rather than a bulky poster tube that you have to carry on the plane.

We’re planning to have the print shop give a presentation at an upcoming campus communicator meeting to elaborate on these things, as well as other services that they can provide to the campus.  Stay tuned for more information on that.
