How do you make "billing and coding" fun?

First year PT students who were successful (or lucky) by collecting payments for PT services when playing a one-of-a-kind “billing and coding” game as part of their PHYT 502 Foundations in PT course.

When Dr. Pat Hageman, the course instructor for PHYT 502 Foundations in PT, realized her lecture on “billing and coding for reimbursement of PT services” was scheduled immediately prior to the students’ Anatomy exam on “head and neck” content, she improvised by switching her lecture into a “game” versus a lecture. Professor Betsy Becker, course coordinator, was exceptionally supportive by role-playing as the insurance representative who approved or denied claims.
